Admissions and Transitions
"We are delighted that you are considering a place for your child/children at Lyneham Primary School. We can't wait to meet you!"
ALL applications for a school place (whether starting school for the first time or moving to us from another school) must be made via Wiltshire Council. Information on how to apply can be found below. Alternatively, you can go directly to Wiltshire Council's Admissions website where there is lots more information on their admissions process, including how to apply for a previously 'looked after child' - go straight to the Admission website by clicking here.
Is your child starting school for the first time in September 2022? You will need to complete a Main Round application.
Need more information before you apply?
For children born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 who will be joining us in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS - also called Reception in some schools) in September 2022 (the start of the academic year in which they turn five), you will need to apply for a Main Round entry place. This is done through Wiltshire Council's Parent Portal.
The parent portal opened on 1 September 2021 for applications for September 2022 entry. The national deadline dates for Primary Reception entry was 15 January 2022.
All applications submitted after the national deadline date will be treated as late applications. Late applications can be submitted using the parent portal.
If you have applied online you will be able to log back into the parent portal on national offer day to view the outcome of your application. National offer day is 19 April 2022.
This system can only be used to apply for reception, infant to junior transfer and secondary year seven applications, for September 2022 entry. You cannot apply for an in-year transfer application using the parent portal (see below if you wish to apply for an In-Year Transfer).
We have a full induction programme for both parents and children who have applied for a place at Lyneham Primary School. Parents will be invited to an Information Meeting in the summer term, and the children will have a number of opportunities to visit their new class and teacher. To help these very young children settle well in school we have a staggered entry throughout September. If this is something that will be difficult to manage due to work commitments, then we also have some (limited) provision for your child to be well cared for and stay at school all day.
Is your child joining us from another primary school? You will need to complete an In-Year Transfer application.
Need more information before you apply?
You may be applying for a school place outside of the usual time of entry. This might be because you have moved house, are being posted with the armed forces, or because your child is unhappy at their current school. Whatever the reason, these are known as transfers or in-year applications. You should not remove your child from their current school before you have made a transfer application and secured a place at another school.
You can apply for an in-year transfer, and track its progress, by registering on the Wiltshire Council website (link above). Alternatively, a copy of the in-year transfer application form can be obtained by calling Wiltshire council Customer Services on 01225 713 010. All paper application forms must be posted back to the address on the application form. Email copies will not be accepted.
Please note: Applications can only be submitted a term in advance on the required admission date.
If you wish to apply for an in year transfer to a school outside of Wiltshire, please contact the Local Authority for which the school is situated in for details of how to apply.
Once we have received confirmation from Wiltshire Council Admissions that they have your completed application form, we will then email you with joining information to help plan for your child/children's first day. In the meantime, if you would like to speak to the School Office team to discuss a prospective place for your child/children or if you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to call us on 01249 890 413 - we are always happy to hear from to you.
At Lyneham Primary School we have children who arrive and leave throughout the school year and others who stay with us right from Foundation Stage to Year 6. We know that transitioning schools can be an unsettling time for both children and parents, therefore whenever a child joins us we have an induction programme to help them and their families settle in as quickly and happily as possible. You will be contacted by our school Transition Co-ordinator once your child/children have started, but if you have any specific questions about the school prior to starting then please feel free to email the school office on email@example.com who will put you in touch with our Transition Co-ordinator.
Is your child leaving LPS?
Once you know that your child/children will be leaving Lyneham Primary, perhaps due to a house move or a posting, you will need to complete our Notification of Child Leaving form. Don't worry if you you have not got all of the details of your move just yet. It is always better to fill out what you can and then update us by email/phone once you know more. Please email completed forms back to firstname.lastname@example.org or handed in to the school office as soon as possible. This form is not necessary for Year 6 leavers who are going to secondary school from LPS.
You will need to contact your new school directly to find out their admissions procedure and apply accordingly.
